The Spinning Beach Ball of Death and Dropbox

Do you have the Spinning Beach Ball of Death and have Dropbox installed? Get rid of it - it uses too much memory.

To check, go to:

Applications
Utilities
Activity Monitor
Memory

If it's green, all is more or less good - if it's amber or red, MacOS is having problems managing memory.

This could be because of a memory-hogging application - a 'hog'.

To find out which apps are hogging memory, organize the list by memory usage (arrow) and identify the culprit.

Don't worry about those applications labelled 'Root'. They're meant to be using memory.

If you have Dropbox, this is going to be the culprit!

But while you're at it, check at the bottom of the table to see how much memory your Mac has and how much is being used. Maybe you just don't have enough RAM.

Quit any applications using too much memory, and put a stop to Dropbox:

Click on the Dropbox item icon and choose "Preferences".
In the Account tab, choose "Unlink this computer"

Or, quit Dropbox then drag and drop into the trash from your Applications folder.

You will still have your Dropbox account which you can use at a later date.
