Duplicate photos on Mac? Read before you buy an app

Image
There are many good apps available online to remove your duplicate photos from your Mac and free up space. Some of them cost $60 or more. If you want to spend that much, fine - they do work! A better alternative is to open your Apple App Store by clicking on the apple symbol in the top left of your screen. You can get a perfectly good duplicate photo removing app for about $1.50. I'm using Duplicate Photos Sweeper right now. You can set the preferences to save the larger files, or the smaller ones, or you can manually pick which duplicates to remove.

Screenshot not working on Mac OS

On Mac OS X, you can take a screen capture of the entire screen with  Command  +  Shift  + 3 and you can take a screen capture of just a selection (or a window) with  Command  +  Shift  +  4   If your screenshot seems to be broken, it is likely the pictures are just not appearing on your screen. The solution is to restart the computer and you'll see all the screenshots you have recently taken.

How to get rid of MyWay extension from Mac

I have no idea how this found its way onto Chrome. I must have been sleepwalking as I'm usually very careful what I click on. Download, free, Malwarebytes: https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/ Download, install , open, and run it by clicking “scan for adware” button to remove adware. All done - it worked for me on Mac OS High Sierra!  By the way, downloading Chrome or Safari again will not get rid of the damn thing.

The Spinning Beach Ball of Death and Dropbox

Do you have the Spinning Beach Ball of Death and have Dropbox installed? Get rid of it - it uses too much memory. To check, go to: Applications Utilities Activity Monitor Memory If it's green, all is more or less good - if it's amber or red, MacOS is having problems managing memory. This could be because of a memory-hogging application - a 'hog'. To find out which apps are hogging memory, organize the list by memory usage (arrow) and identify the culprit. Don't worry about those applications labelled 'Root'. They're meant to be using memory. If you have Dropbox, this is going to be the culprit! But while you're at it, check at the bottom of the table to see how much memory your Mac has and how much is being used. Maybe you just don't have enough RAM. Quit any applications using too much memory, and put a stop to Dropbox: Click on the Dropbox item icon and choose "Preferences". In the Account tab, choose "Unl

Firefox Keeps Quitting - Apple Mac

Image
If Firefox keeps quitting, you can try these things. 1. Restart Mac in Safe Boot Mode 2. Download Firefox again, and when it asks if you want to replace the copy you already have, say yes. The second fix worked for me on both Macbook and Mac Mini. What is safe mode? Safe mode (sometimes called safe boot) is a way to start up your Mac so that it performs certain checks and prevents some software from automatically loading or opening. Starting your Mac in safe mode does the following: Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed Loads only required kernel extensions Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically Disables user-installed fonts  Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files If your Mac has an issue that goes away when you start up in safe mode, you might be able to isolate the cause . Start up in safe mode To start up in safe mode: Start or restart your Mac, then immediately
